Hati dan akal

Kadang kala, pengorbanan itu perlu.

Ku lihat diluar tingkap. Cantiknya cuaca hari ini! Hati melonjak gembira seolah-olah memaksa diri keluar.
Keluar mencari ketenangan. Kononnya.

Namun, apabila akal mula berbicara, semua anggota seolah-olah mengerti. Tunduk bermuhasabah.

Just a little bit more.

And here i am, stuck in this beautiful building with bundle of notes. Semoga ia menjadi bekalan akhirat kelak. Dan semoga ilmu ini bermanfaat untuk ummat. Amin!

oh kids and bedtime

assalamualaikum and hi!

currently reading books about kids a.k.a pediatrics. *lam wow lam*  and I found something interesting.

I have lots lots and lots of nieces and nephews. Alhamdulillah. All praise to Allah for this ni'mah.
and I have experienced taking care of them. Soooo, few common challenges that I have faced/observed/etc are:

1. Difficulty in settling to sleep at bedtime.

some of my nieces and nephews go to sleep quite late. Especially when this Che Su tak mo tido lagi. lols. Ok having said that, I used to asked them at what time they usually sleep. If weekend, they are all sleep late because no school on the next day. And it changes during weekdays. Fair enough for the big ones but not the young ones especially if they are sleeping with the parents.

Hence, I am thinking about the future. I need the sleep for the energy. hurmmmm. *sleepy head much. hahahah*

Anyway, back to the story. First, you need to figure out why they are not settling at night. Here are some reasons:

  • too much sleep in the late afternoon
  • displaced sleep/wake cycle - not waking child in morning because did not settle until late on the previous night
  • separation anxiety
  • overstimulated or overwrought in the evening
  • kept awake by siblings or noisy neighbors or TV in the bedroom
  • erratic parental practices: no bedtime or routing to cue child into sleep readiness, sudden removal from play to go to bed without prior warning to wind down
  • use of bedroom as punishment
  • dislike of darkness and silence- night light and playing story tapes can be helpfl
  • some chronic physical conditions may be associated with sleep problems e.h painful crisis in sickle cell disease

and these are what recommended:

  • creating a bedtime routine which cues the child to what is required
  • telling the child to lie quietly in bed until he/she falls asleep, recognizing that children cannot fall asleep to order

and these are what my parents did to me. as far as I remember. hehe

  • Mami is a mom to us and a warden as well. Hehe. At 10 pm every night, she will make sure everyone go to bed after finish homework/study. Every night, we sat at the study table together and everyone was studying including my mom. and exactly at 10 pm, we prepared our stuffs to go to school for the next day and ready to go to bed. Thats was happened everyday! *hidup berjemaah beb, we did everything together, bila masuk university, those 20 years training had changed. why? I don't know. Need to go back on track*. Basically, we have routine and honestly, I am enjoy that. *perfect melancholic much*
  • we don't watch TV at night - so, it was very quiet at night. Except later on when a shopping complex was build next to our house. (we lived in a shophouse and it was a cowboy town back then. not anymore. Sound pollution started when I was 10 I think.).
  • sometimes, after Papa came back from work and both my parents were ready to go to sleep, I would go to their room and tell a story based on what I drew. Well, it was kinda bedtime story for all of us, but I were the story teller. lols. *see, how much I am enjoy talking. Thats explain my excessive talking behavior. hahahah* - I am trying to reduce okkk.
  • night light - I have this until now, not really here. But back home in Malaysia. My mum will make sure all rooms have night light. I don't know the reason. but thats mum. She will make sure all rooms have night light or table lamp. I rarely use it because some said it is not good for your sleep hygiene. To what extend it is true, I don't know. I have no problem having that in my room. Mom's love <3 li="">

Fun fact: talking about story tapes. For each one of us who have successfully read a whole story book, our parents will tape it. *we don't have any video cam whatsoever. voice recorder was the best* It was the best moment ever! We would keep on playing that and listening over and over again our own voice. It was kinda a booster to read more more and more. awwww. I am wonder where are those tapes? hurmm in our old house maybe.

Enough for tonight. I would like to write on toddler disobedience and tantrum but not today. Later insyAllah.

T.A.T.T.

Assalamualaikum and hi!

Just want to share something common. Sooooo commmooonnn especially for a student. ehehs.

Anyway, lets get back to the business!

My doctor asked me if a patient came with T.A.T.T. what are your differential diagnosis?

And I was like WHAT?! Tatt??

It was my first time know that term. T.A.T.T. = Tired All The Time.

I don't understand why they want a fancy acronym. pfttt. ok. thats it about the name.

So, if you feel tired all the time, there are number of questions you have to ask yourself and if it is YES most of the questions, please be worried.

Biological Factors.

  1. Are you a vegetarian? [Query for anemia]
  2. If yes, did you take any iron supplement?
  3. Are you a female? [Query for heavy bleeding]
  4. If yes, when was your last menstrual period?
  5. Is it heavier than normal? Or how many pads did you used recently? Or was there any flushing?
  6. Have you gain your weight recently? [Query for hypothyroidism]
  7. Are you cold intolerance?
  8. Do you have any constipation recently?
  9. Do you have increase in thirst? [Query for diabetes]
  10. Do you feel want to go to the toilet more than usual?
  11. Have you loss your weight recently?
  12. Do you feel more hungry lately?
Physiological factors
  1. Did you sleep well last night? [Query for insomnia/depression]
  2. How was your appetite?
  3. What did you do that you find it enjoyable?
  4. Did you still do it?
  5. Is there anything bothering you lately?
  6. Do you have any bad thoughts?
  7. Have you ever think of self harm?
  8. If yes, what did you plan to do?
  9. Did you talk about this with your parents?

The common causes of tired all the time are Anaemia, Hypothyroidism and Depression

Don't keep it to yourself if you feel you are tired all the time. Seek help. See doctor. Talk to your friends about this or your family.

If something bothering you, seek help. And don't forget to ask from Allah.

Easy said then done. But believe me, you are precious. Love yourself. Allah is always there for you. Be strong. If HE has kept you breathing, He has a purpose for you. Value yourself. :)

His son, Abdullah, asked his father one day: “Abi when will we ever relax?” His father, one of the greatest revivers of the Sunnah and a role model for all Muslims, looked him in the eye and said: “With the first step we take into Jannah.”

Consultant

Assalamualaikum and hi!

Alhamdulillah Alhamdulillah Alhamdulillah. it is 2014 and we are still alive as a muslim. Alhamdulillah.

2013 was a very tough year for me. So many things happened. But above all that Allah is very kind. He knows best.

Anyway, done with that. I have already wrote about 2013 in my small magic book. lols. It is just too personal. Will see if there are any benefits in sharing those. If I found one, I will let you know. hehe.

This time I want to share about my consultants. *bukan ngumpat. just mohon contohi peribadinya ye.* ehehs.

there are couples of interesting facts and stories.

1. if you are with a team full with people i.e consultant, SHO, registrar, intern and bunch of medical students. Who will you think will hold the door for you during the ward round? (you= medical students) the answer: the Consultant

2. if you (medical students) have a small group tutorial with a consultant in a small room where there is not enough chairs. Who will you think will sacrifice the chair and sit on the table or find other alternatives? the answer: the Consultant.

3. if there is a conference where all the teams in the department need to be there and there are not enough chairs to sit on and the consultant come late, do you think any of the people (medical students/SHO/inter/reg) will give up their chairs or do you think the consultant will ask for the chairs? the answer is NO. None of them give up their chairs and  the consultant will not ask for the chair. You might think it is kinda rude for the medical students not give up their chairs. But thats the culture. If you come late, regardless of who you are, you will not get the chair. In fact, there are some who give up the chair, but the consultant reject it.*your power/position will not secure your life.*

4. if the consultant make a mistake and it doesn't involve you (the medical student), what will you think he will do? Don't talk about it? Ignore? the answer is NO. The consultant tells the story to us (the medical students) on the spot and how sorry he feel. Well, he did nothing wrong to us. But it is a lesson to be learn to all medical professional although it will require you to bring down your ego.*well, is there any ego in the first place in these creatures?* ehehs

5. if the consultant is too busy and don't have time to teach during the ward round because he has theater afterwards, what do you think he will do? Ignore the medical students and go on with the ward round? Shush away the medical students? The answer is he acknowledge our presence but apologize in advance that he couldn't teach us. But these medical students are too stubborn and stay with him because we know he will teach us regardless of how busy he is. hahhaha. ok, just joking. eventually, we didn't join the ward round. Pity him. We don't want to burden him. Anyway, he did apologize to us TWICE that day! During the ward round and when we met him again later that day. He remembered so well. We don't mind at all. It was not his fault. The society own him. not us. heheh.

Well, those are not generalization, to be specific it is applicable on this particular hospital and at this particular departments which consist of 3 consultants *surgeon*  Different people might experience differently. But above all that, the message is, just do good to others regardless who you are. Be nice. People love you and Allah love you too :) Rasulullah is the best example. Qudwah hasanah. He never do bad or said bad to others. He did mistake *forgot to say insyAllah story*  but he istighfar afterwards. How about us? sobs sobs

I have another two more stories. Related with religion.

1. Our registrar is a muslim. One day, he has to give a tutorial to us. Well, as a first time, breaking the ice is a must. One of our group members named Sara and she is a Christian, a practicing one. I know her quite well. We did discuss about religion quite number of times in the last 2 years I know her. She is a nice girl :) Anyway, back to the story. Knowing her name is Sara, our reg start this kind of quiz.

R: Did you know your name is the same name as Abraham's wife?
S: yeah, it is in the bible too
R: Abraham has two wives, what the other wife's name? *pointing at me*
M: *geee this is too sudden* erk. *after some time, HAJAR!!*
R; right! Sara's son is Issac (Ishaq). and From there comes Jesus roots. and we are from Hajar's son, Ismail.Come Muhammad.
S; in the bible....*i dont remember exactly.*

ending: the reg said, read the bible again.

geeeee. wasn't it cool???

ok. not cool for me because I can't answer it straight away.
Conclusion: keep calm and read seerah :)

2. another story. We have this tutorial with another surgeon consultant. He is a general surgeon. It was supposedly about medical, but it turn out, he talked a lot about other stuffs. Yeah, thats his character. we know so well. hehe. Suddenly, he said,"have you read Irish Times yesterday? No offence. but it was sooo hilarious. The best cartoon strip ever. You guys should go home and search for it. It is online"

here it goes:

source

They make fun of France Prime Minister on his personal affair. lols.
well, at least I know my consultant's stand on this issue :)

another thing he mention in the tutorial: the lifespan of single man is shorter than  married man and the lifespan of married women is shorter than the single women. why? single man tend to neglect their health whereas the married women is dying of stress because of the husband. LOLS.

*it was soooooo hilarious!*

ok. done for two weeks. Lots to learn and learn a lot Alhamdulillah :)

Just do your best in whatever you do. Allah loves those who do their best.

p/s  Alhamdulillah I have sooo many good news this week until I fall sick today. hehe.

May Allah bless :)

how to become a good and successful medical student.

assalamualaikum wbt.

i have just finish my-so-called uzlah. hehe. and surprisingly, i found the answers to most of the questions below. seriously. no joke. hurm, but i dont think i have enough time on that. nanti kita buat skema jawapan tuh sama-sama ek. but not now. i want to share something more important before i go away. again?! yes, again, i have to. i have to go away. sorry, readers. i wish to be at home, helping mum with the wedding preparation, (not my wedding kay, geez) accompany mum going shopping, being her sound box, (mum knows what is it hehe), blogging, sharing all the wonderful experiences, reminding on the school ramadhan, etc2, lot of things i want to do. but again, Allah knows best. n it is happens for a reason. i'm just happy on what happen. yeah, it is sad sometime but we always neglect many good things happen cause we focus too much on the sad things. ok, ayat terabur. hehe.

hurm, another thing that i realize, this blog become my sound box, geez, i dont know since when i make this blog more like a diary.. please, dont think it is a diary.. my intention of having a blog is because i want to share what i get, what i experience, what i learn, what i have, what i think, what i read, so that in the end we will be together in jannah, amin, insyaAllah. i didnt ask for sympahty, or empathy, or anything, i just hope you will get the message, the lessons and imply it in your life, and lastly become closer to HIM, the Almighty. have you heard this quotation?

knowledge is the power but the real power is the application of the knowledge, and the most true power is knowledge that can make us close to Allah.
"umur saya 2 tahun =) ".semoga menjadi anak solehah * nk selit skit pasal parenting  =) * didiklah anak sejak kecil, kerana sesungguhnya setelah meninggal, terputuslah amalan anak adam kecuali amal  soleh, ilmu yang berguna dan anak yang soleh/hah.
i guess too much mumbling, hehe. lets straight to the topic. hurm, to tell the truth i met Dr, Muhaya Mohamad, dont know who she is? click here. and here is some of her tips on becoming a good and successful medical students.

1.      Have I made the correct decision?

¨ Yes, you have. Being in the medical field, is one of the best field to give service to mankind. The person most loved by god is the person most beneficial. Being in the medical field, we are always useful in whatever situation. A doctor does not need an office, an organization to serve. A doctor is useful anytime, anywhere and to anybody. If you are one person whose life purpose is to serve others, then you have definitely made the correct decision.

2.     Can I be a doctor one day?
¨
Sure you can! It all depends on your intention. A good intention will give good results. If your intention is to serve others, then you have all the power of god almighty, to achieve your ambitions. Whenever we do something with the intention to serve rather than thinking of what’s in it for us, you can be sure that god’s help and blessing will be with you all along. Once God’s help is with you, you will attract people, circumstances and situations that will help you to become a doctor. This may come in the form of doing well in your exams, getting the scholarship and the place in the university as well as passing all exams easily. It will cost you to have inspired actions, which will results in phenomenal success in whatever you do. Have full faith that with God, everything is possible.

3.      What are the important traits to become a doctor?

¨ The most important thinking is a very positive mental attitude. One of the most important assets is that they must have a lot of compassion where a doctor has to put others before himself and always wanting things for others more than himself.

most of the tips above are from her book. she wrote a book entitle how to become a good and successful medical student. i advise you guys to have one. (esp for medical students) ouh, and one more thing, sorry the tips above are quite bias to medical students. well, it is meant to be for medical students. for other courses, no offense.

another useful reminder from her.

remove your apa-orang -kata cap! as long as you know you are doing something right.

we always have the mindset, nanti apa orang kata kalau kita buat camni,,, or orang kata tak yah buat or... etc2. the words we-always-have, might not apply to all. well, maybe not you. maybe other person think that way, n i have to admit, sometimes i do have that kind of thinking. in order to boost your motivation, or to become a successful person,  we have to remove that cap. huhu.

i think thats all for now.cant wait to share the answers to the 20-questions luar alam. hehe.

ps. happy ramadhan, people!! the school of tarbiyyah is coming!! may Allah bless us all. =3
